What is a mastectomy?
A mastectomy is surgery to remove breast tissue, most often to treat breast cancer or to lower the risk of it. It may involve one breast or both, and some women choose reconstruction while others don’t. Every choice is valid, and every body is beautiful.
Why a mastectomy bra?
After surgery, skin around the chest can stay tender for a long time. A mastectomy bra has no wires, soft seams and wide straps, plus inner pockets that hold a breast form so your clothes sit naturally and you feel balanced.
What is a breast prosthesis?
A prosthesis (or breast form) restores shape and symmetry under clothing. Lightweight sponge cups are a gentle choice, especially in the early months, as they add no heaviness or pressure.
When can I start wearing one?
This depends on your surgery and how you’re healing, so please check with your surgeon or breast-care nurse first. Many women begin once their wound has healed and swelling has settled, and come back for a new size as their body changes.
Finding your size
Measure snugly around your ribcage, just under the bust, for your band size. If you wear a prosthesis on one side, pick the cup that matches your other side. Unsure? Our team will gladly guide you.
Small things that help
Keep two or three bras so one is always fresh while the others are washed.
Hand wash in mild detergent and air dry to keep the fabric soft.
Re-check your size every few months; bodies keep changing after treatment.
Keep up your follow-up visits and regular check-ups.
Lean on people. Support groups, friends and family make a real difference.

Do I need one sponge cup or two?
Each sponge cup is a single piece. Most women who had surgery on one side need one; if both sides, choose two.
